He Completes Me (Home Series)

He Completes Me - Cardeno C. Somehow I gave this 5 stars when I read it 24April2011. Unfortunately, I didn't think to add any commentary, so I have no idea what I was thinking when I did so. Or what drugs I may have been on. After discussing it with some friends, and all of us agreeing this seems like one of the last books I'd be likely to rate 5 stars, I had to reread it to find out.Insta-love is one of my big pet peeves, though every once in a great while it's done in a way I find believable. This is not one of those times. This is one of the typical times that makes me roll my eyes and mutter sarcastic comments to the book as I read. For that alone, I'm convinced my previous 5-star rating must have been the result of some really good drugs.I ended up skimming a lot of this book (including most of the sex scenes, which in itself meant I skimmed A LOT of this book). I kept waiting to find out if there was some good explanation for Aaron's insistence on martyring himself. If that question was answered, it must have been when I was skimming. Although it seems impossible to dislike Aaron, without that explanation, I kind of did.And Kimmy? She was batshit crazy and for all that I was told she was so likeable, I just couldn't manage to like her. At all. Dean was okay. I guess. And everyone else was too perfect or too damaged; there didn't seem to be any nuanced characters except Zach.So why the 3-star rating now? Because despite all that, I rather liked Zach. His snark and his moments of self-awareness were appealing.
