This had the engrossing readability that I think of as characteristic of L.A. Witt books, but I had some surprising issues with it. My biggest one is the utter shock at how black-and-white the gay-or-straight issue was for Michael. I know Lori has said she's bisexual herself and dislikes bi-erasure, and I've appreciated that she's written some bisexual characters. I thought Michael was going to be another one, and was disappointed to discover that nope, despite his previous marriage to a wonderful woman, he'd always been gay but in denial. I know people like that are real, as I know some personally. But it's such a tired trope in m/m (or, at least, I'm tired of it!) and true bisexual depictions so rare, and this seemed such an obvious opportunity for one, that I couldn't help feeling let down.I also never really understood what it was about Jason that Michael found so irresistible that it shattered all his years of denial. It also felt like there was a lot of unnecessary ups and downs in the relationship. It came across more like teenagers than men in their thirties. Perhaps that's an understandable effect of Michael being with his first man, but what's Jason's excuse? So, yeah, I had some real issues with the plot on this one but managed to enjoy it anyway. I'm really looking forward to Seth's story.
