Amazingly, I didn't cry. Teared up a few times, but never actually cried. For an Amy Lane book, I think that's some sort of record. I did laugh out loud several times though, per usual. And, of course, was completely and utterly engrossed with the characters and the story. But I did have one niggle. I didn't understand why Whiskey and Fly Bait had to do such a mad dash through the fields to try to get to Patrick before his dad opened the door. Why wouldn't some of the many law enforcement officers present have given them a ride? Reading that part felt surprisingly manipulative, something that happened for the sake of more tension and drama, and that's not something I expect from Amy Lane.
